Secure Your Workflow: Introducing Private Projects in Contribbit

Meta Description: Discover how Contribbit’s new Private Projects feature gives you total control over your workspace, ensuring secure, focused collaboration for sensitive work.

TL;DR: Contribbit now offers Private Projects, allowing you to silo sensitive research and drafts from your wider organization. You can toggle privacy during project creation, in settings, or when ejecting chats, giving you the perfect balance of security and creative freedom.

Why We Built Private Projects

What are Private Projects? Private Projects are a new visibility setting in Contribbit that restricts project access exclusively to the owner, invited collaborators, and organization administrators.

We know that not every idea is ready for the entire team to see. Whether you are working on proprietary research, sensitive client strategy, or simply need a “sandbox” to iterate without distraction, the need for a private workspace is clear. By introducing this feature, we are ensuring that your creative process remains secure while maintaining the collaborative power that makes Contribbit unique.

How to Manage Your Project Privacy

How do you set a project to private? You can manage project visibility through three key touchpoints: the Add Project modal, the Project Settings menu, and the Chat ejection flow.

1. During Initial Setup

When you start a new project, you will see a visibility toggle in the Add Project modal. Selecting “Private” ensures that your project is restricted from the moment it is created.

2. Updating Existing Projects

Projects evolve. If a project becomes more sensitive over time, you can easily change its status. Simply navigate to Project Settings to toggle the project between Public and Private at any time.

3. Ejecting Chats into Projects

One of our most popular features is the ability to “eject” a lightweight chat into a full-scale project. We’ve updated this flow so that you can define the privacy level during the transition, ensuring your data remains protected as it moves into a more robust workspace.

Real-World Application: When to Go Private

How does this apply to your team? Private Projects bridge the gap between open collaboration and the need for focused, secure, or confidential work environments.

  • For Freelancers & Consultants: Keep client-specific research siloed so that different clients never see each other’s project data.
  • For Product Teams: Use private spaces to brainstorm sensitive roadmap features or internal documentation before presenting them to the wider company.
  • For Sensitive Research: When dealing with proprietary data, Private Projects ensure that only the necessary stakeholders have access, helping you maintain compliance and data integrity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can organization admins see my private projects?

Yes. To maintain organizational oversight and security, organization administrators retain access to all projects, including those marked as private.

Can I change a private project to public later?

Absolutely. You can toggle a project’s visibility status at any time via the Project Settings menu, allowing you to open up collaboration once your work is ready for the team.

Does this affect my organization’s system rules?

No. Contribbit’s system rules for LLM interactions remain in effect. If your organization has specific rules regarding AI usage, those will still take precedence within your private projects.

Is this feature available on the Free tier?

Private Projects are available to all users. However, remember that Free tier organizations are limited to one project total.

How do I invite people to a private project?

Even if a project is private, you can still invite specific collaborators. Once invited, they will have access to the project, while the rest of your organization remains restricted.
